What Exactly Is A Social Hobbit?

Well a Social Hobbit (my capitals) is what my daughter calls me.  One day while I was at work, I texted my daughter to check in on her whereabouts. In return, she asked what I was doing and I told her that I was sitting reading a book in my car in the rain.  Her response back was "Oh fun, well my social hobbit of a mother, what is for dinner?"

For a second I verged on offence, who me, a Social Hobbit?  Then in the next moment I realized, of course, I am now, have always been and will likely always be a Social Hobbit.  And that is not a bad thing in this crazy world... like the words of a Passenger song: "All I need is a whisper, in a world that only shouts".

There are friends who would be surprised, well really only casual friends who hardly know me, that I am not a social person by nature.  I am an introvert who has learned to cloak herself as an extrovert.  Something along the line of Harry Potter's invisibility cloak.  I can hide in plain sight.  I can appear as an extrovert while my introvert self is hidden and safe.

Social Hobbits can do very well in this world with a Extrovert Cloak to help them on their way.  Yes, yes I realize that I am mixing literary references, Tolkien's Hobbit and Rowling's Potter but read them again with an eye for the similarities, there are a few.

So that is my short introduction to the world of the Social Hobbit.  I am sure there are many out there who know what I mean.  I look forward to sharing more of my adventures, but I must find another name to use, Bilbo, Frodo and Harry are already taken.

Until later...
